Andrea Hill's salary

Andrea Hill's salary

Postby Squirrel » Thu Jan 21, 2010 3:21 pm

There's an article in today's East Anglian saying that Suffolk County Council won't cap Andrea Hill's salary (aprox £220,000 per year). It's odd really as it's a Conservative Council that say they won't do it and yet the Conservative Party say an incoming Conservative Government would cap local government salaries at £100,000! Then again this is the same Conservative Council that completely ignored the party's opposition to unitary government and pushed for the creation of a unitary council in Suffolk. Probably so they could all get a bigger allowance!

I can't see how anyone in public office can be paid more than the Prime Minister - surely being PM is the top job and anything else carries less responsibility

Fire her, nobody would notice she'd gone, (same could be said for most of the council though)

Just goes to show the grasp of reality our local conserative councllors have on reality, One of them even said to get the best we needed to offer the money, Sorry get nearly as good for £100,000 less, and then set about cutting over head costs. Being PM should be the top job, even an elected MP should be paid more than a middle size company CEO, ( which after all is what our council is).

If you fired her you'd find that the pay off would be far more than she's earning! Hardly cost efficient - you'd need to make the post redundant, which you can't really do with a Chief Executive. On the other hand I agree her salary is stupid and if I was on the council I'd be getting her to agree to a 5 year salary freeze at the very least or trying to get her on a job share with other councils when their chief executive leaves.
