E3 – The Electronic Entertainment Exchange

Postby BSEShopper » Thu Jul 23, 2009 1:25 pm

Just to let people know there is a new computer game shop in Bury St Edmunds in St John Street (number 80).

My son used to love the Games Cavern when that was open behind Palmers and other than Game (which frankly smells a bit funny) there is nowhere to go now Woolies is shut. I wish them luck :ugeek:

I had a quick look around. Hardly inspired and very expensive for second hand stuff, it's cheaper new online! I don't think it will last more than a few months.

I know exactly what you mean about game, an unusal mix of feet and BO! I am thinking it is something to do with all the teenage boys in there
Does the new one smell ok (at the moment)?

I went into E3 at the weekend for a bit of nostalgia. Unfortunately I agree with the other posts....it's dull and very expensive.

I've lived in bury for a good number of years and I've been waiting for a shop like this for ever!!!!!!!!!!!

It's another good addition to the independant shops down St. Johns Street, which makes it one of the most varied and interesting streets in bury st edmunds, unlike the generic arc!!!!!!!!!!!!

As for pricing, I have found them to offer much better deals than anywhere else in the town, (and therefore i cannot understand the previous overpricing comment) and have even seen the manager of GAME shopping there! The staff are helpful, down to earth, very friendly, and treat you like a person (unlike some of the bigger retail outlets in Bury)The staff will also go out of there way to get you whatever you're looking for/want if you should ask them too.

The range of products is just unique, how many places in town can you find a mix of retro and current gen games consoles as well as DVD's and CD's and even ARCADE MACHINES to purchase?!?!?

E3...does exactly what it says on the tin!

The problem with E3 is this - everything in there can probably be found cheaper online where there is even greater choice. Video game nostalgia fans will (probably without exception) use the internet, my advice to them is check eBay and Amazon's market place before buying anything from E3. That way you'll be sure you're not paying over the odds. The difficulty is without real novelty items - Neo Geos, Turbo Grafix, rare (not one or two typical battered examples) arcade machines etc - what is there to make E3 worth paying more than you would online? In my opinion nothing. It just doesn't offer anything that different.

Right on the money Bumble. The internet has rendered this sort of shop obsolete (perhaps sadly so), with their overheads they just can't compete with the range and prices available online.

Based on this logic HMV should not survive either, but clearly it does. There is a big disconnect between the pricing and availability on the internet and pay and take from a local store. Not every body "likes" or is able to trade on the internet, be it because they dont have credit, or cant wait for the delivery, or maybe dont want the item delivered, what ever it is businesses like E3 do seem to have a future, even if on the surface the pricing seems higher. the same argument could be used for almost any item sold visa E bay, amazon,or e shopping, taken to it logical conclusion even tescos shopping should not survie in the high street.

That is not a vote of confidence in E3 which IMO has a tough time ahead, even if they are also present on the web and this is the "shop front" its a balance. I wish them every success, and hope they are flexible enougth to adapt.

I only come to bury when I visit the mother in law as I live in Tollesbury.
I was pleastly suprised when I stumbled across e3 while being marched around the shops as usual by the wife.
The prices are very competive compared to the internet and the quality of the second hand products are much superior to game or game station
also the staff seemed friendly and willing to help unlike other shops.
I think the people of Bury are lucky to have a shop like this and should support local business.
