The Corn Exchange Nightclub?

Postby Archie » Thu Jan 21, 2010 1:17 pm

Am I the only one that has heard this rumour? Apparently the Station area is being redeveloped and the nightclub there wants to move into the Corn Exchange. It would massively change the nature of an evening in the town - at the moment most people gravitate towards the clubs at the end of the night and away from the town centre. If it happens they will all stay there.

Anything that takes people away from (lack of) Ambition is a good thing!

Interesting rumour, and not a total surprise.
As I see it
The Station area and the Gas storage area ARE both subject to redevelopment proposals. ( seperate ones not the same or one over master all plan). This would mean the current night club may like to move, as also would the eating establishments close by, as no doubt they would not fit in, or attrach the wrong people to a nice new area of town.

The town centre with the closure of Ruin may offer a better business case for a night club.

The Tartan buildings must be close to the expiry date, and in need of major expendure. From a land lords perspective more money to made from new housing. One assumes this is brown land so major plus points from government.

The Corn Exchange is or will be available to rent, lease, purchase once the APEX is open. The council can not fill the APEX let alone the corn exchange as well, so are more than keen to off load the historic building to anyone. A repeat of the Manor House in my opinion.

The Corn Exchange could make a good night club, it has a kitchen, Bar, Toilets, controlled entry, a stage, and a dance floor. ripe for some one to take over. Oh and may not need a change of use, just a variation.

A couple of buildings in abbeygate street are changing into "drinking and eating" establishments.

It may be by default but our town centre may just become a centre again, which might in turn add to a day tiem evening cafe enviroment. It would also keep all of those who need watching in one place making the polices job easier.

Will it happen who knows.

It sounds plausible. I know from a policing perspective they prefer to have everything in one place - a smaller area means it's easier to contain any trouble. Should improve things for everyone...although I imagine a lot of people won't think that way.

From what I heard Kt1, Ambition is moving to next to the Norwich & Peterborough. The landlord wants to have flats above the chemist and doesn't think anyone will want to live over a bar. You may get Abbeygate Street back :)

Ambition is moving :D thank God! One of the worst things about walking home from a meal out in the evening was having to go past the gaggle of inebriated teenagers that are falling about outside there from about 9pm on a Friday night.

Oh dear , if you live in a town you cant moan because some people dont want to be in bed by 10pm.

Townies have joys of shops and a moving vista thats probably better than any soap on t.v but with that comes lack of parking and people of all ages and at all times day and night...so dont hold your breath about Abbeygate

Iv heard a lot more rumors will fill you in if i think they are founded later !

It's the 3.30am I'm not so happy about. Then the morning deliveries starting before 7am ("Warning! Vehicle reversing!"). Doesn't leave much of a gap for sleep.

as i said joys of living in town !

and maybe if those stupid gates were not there you wouldnt get reversing vehicles at silly oclock on Abbeygate they would drive through easily ( at least if they were open more youd get some peace ) but I still have little sympathy its like buying a house next to a pub then complaining, same with a flat in town , fortunatly iv lived in a town and lived in the sticks , I prefer the sticks theres no ram raiding, car alarms, shouting , ringing doorbells at 2 am ...believe me I know , so I moved to the sticks .

did you see my DM ? can I talk to you there ? cheers
