Heart Attack Care

Postby BSEShopper » Mon Jun 22, 2009 3:18 pm

Not sure if I heard this correctly but I was listening to Town102 in Ipswich the other day and there was someone on the radio saying that there won't be any facilities to treat people who have heart attacks in Suffolk. Instead anyone who has one will be taken by ambulance to Norwich or Cambridge :!: Absolute madness. What if there is gridlock in Bury. It wouldn't be the first time.

There was a bit more about it in the paper today. I think it is the other side of the county that need to worry. We're close to Cambridge so things might actually improve!

There was an article in the East Anglian Daily Times about this today. As has been said I think it is more people in Ipswich and Felixstowe that need to worry. We're near Cambridge anyway so it makes little difference if we go half an our in one direction or the other.

You're right, even if they do get a heart attack centre in Ipswich it would make little difference to us. Just the press getting us all worried again!

What exactly do they mean by heart attack care? So if I have a mild heart attack the ambulance crew wont bother taking me to west Suffolk cause there is nothing they can do? I always thought if you only had a mild heart attack there was very little they could do other than give you a fist full of blood thinners.

Lets be honest it is whatever saves the most lives. I'd prefer to allow the health professionals make these type of calls. If that means having a pool of correctly trained and equipped professionals in Addenbrookes with sufficient in transport care then so be it.
