Turn Bury Green!

Good to see Bury St Edmunds has finally elected a Green Councillor  We can't stop there though we need to do more like introduce park and ride asap. What about bins for recycling waste on the streets? At the moment everything goes in one and ends up in landfill.

I totally agree. I first blogged about that type of bins after a visit to Wales 2 years ago. Seperate bins for plastic, glass, paper, cans and everything else. It may not be 'easy' to implement but if they can do it why can't Suffolk?

A great idea in theory but would people really use separate bins? I suppose it is just a matter of educating people, like with the weekly rubbish collections.

While I can't pretend I was ecstatic about Mark's election, although I was pleased for him personally, his success does demonstrate that environmental issues are now, quite rightly, at the top of the political agenda - both locally and nationally. I may be imaginging it but I thought something was in the pipeline of the recycling bins front - I'll check back and let you know.

As for park & ride, I've blogged about it recently and don't intend to repeat it here. For those interested it can be found under blogs at http://www.RichardRout.com (I'd post a link but copy & paste has stopped working).

Hi everyone - am new to the site thanks to the updates from your Twitter account and Picklesmum. I've heard it's looking good re the plans for the recycling bins. I can't wait to see them on the streets in Bury. I was in Ipswich on Monday and saw them in place there.

I would just like to add my congratulations to Mark. He is a good councillor and nearly had the opportunity to be an excellent MP.
